How to pay for SMM services in India: UPI, cards and net banking

13 September 2026 · JoshBoost Team

Payments are the single biggest operational weak point in the Indian SMM panel market — most gateways classify this category as high-risk, and a lot of panels solve it with workarounds that put your money at risk. Here's what to actually check.

Why this category is hard for payment gateways

Razorpay, Cashfree, PayU and similar aggregators categorise "social media growth services" as high-risk merchant activity, largely because of chargeback rates and platform-policy ambiguity in the category as a whole. Many panels get rejected at onboarding, or approved and then frozen months later once volume trips a review.

What that means for how panels actually take your money

The legitimate route: a properly registered business, correctly categorised (typically as "digital marketing services"), integrated with a gateway that accepts the category. This is the slower, more expensive route for the panel to set up, and it's the one that protects you — payments go through a licensed processor with dispute resolution, PCI-compliant card handling, and a real audit trail.

The workaround route: a personal or loosely-registered UPI ID, with manual reconciliation. This is common in the market and puts your payment on the same footing as sending money to an individual — no dispute process, no processor protecting you if something goes wrong.

What to check before you top up a wallet anywhere

How we handle it

JoshBoost processes all payments through Cashfree — UPI, cards and net banking, with funds landing in your wallet automatically once the payment is confirmed. We never see or store your card or UPI credentials; that data goes directly to Cashfree's PCI-compliant infrastructure. If a payment succeeds but your wallet doesn't update within a couple of minutes, that's a signal to contact support immediately rather than retry the payment.

A safe way to test any panel

Whatever panel you're using, start with the platform's stated minimum — ours is ₹50 — and place a small order before adding anything larger. This tells you in one cycle whether wallet crediting, order submission and delivery all actually work, for a cost that doesn't matter if something's wrong.

The one red flag that matters most

A panel that only accepts payment via a personal UPI ID with no processor in between, and asks you to message a screenshot for manual crediting, is telling you it either can't pass payment-gateway onboarding or hasn't tried. That's not automatically a scam, but it removes every safety net a real processor provides.
